Our History

The History of Hope A.M.E. Zion Church

Whereas it pleased the Almighty God to place in the hearts and minds of a group of people worshiping together in Decatur African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Zion Church now known as Solid Rock
A.M.E. Zion church to organize themselves into a new society for the purpose of spreading the good news of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to all people despite color, gender, race and nationality whereby building a community of hope-filled people through prayer, praise and proclamation under the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church for the purpose of cultivating souls for Christ , a new society was organized.

Whereas in the spring of 1998 the people first met at the home of Rev. Arit Dan Umoh at 4920 Winters Chapel Road, Apt N-3, Atlanta, GA 30360.

Whereas in the first organizational meeting, the name Hope was unanimously adopted by its members.

Whereas Rev. Arit Dan Umoh, ordained deacon, was elected as the leader to lead this group of people of God, Hope.

Whereas the people met every Wednesday evening for prayers, bible study and in breaking of bread together.

Whereas in the One Hundred and Thirty First Session of the Georgia-South Georgia Annual Conference of the South Atlantic Episcopal District of the A.M.E. Zion church, held at Mt Zion A.M.E. Zion church, Augusta, Georgia on November 3-8, 1998, under the leadership of Bishop Joseph Johnson, Presiding Prelate, according to the Discipline of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, it was unanimously voted on Saturday November 7 that the new society, Hope, be received into the Georgia-South Georgia Annual Conference of A.M.E. Zion church as a church.

Hence, the birth of Hope A.M.E. Zion church in our connection with Rev. Arit Dan Umoh being appointed as the pastor to shepherd, nurture and lead this people of God, Hope A. M. E. Zion Church.
